Teen Suicide Prevention Program

Comunilife’s Life is Precious™ (LIP) is the only program of its kind in the country, providing mental health services that directly relate to the risk factors associated with suicide ideation and attempt.

As a testament to the outcomes achieved, Life is Precious™ has been added to the Suicide Prevention Resource Center Best Practices Registry.

We produced this short video to highlight the essential labor we carry out in the community and to show how our organization continues to grow, reaching more locations throughout New York State.

Opened in 2008, LIP has program sites in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan (Washington Heights).
We have now expanded beyond NYC to Poughkeepsie, Yonkers, Hempstead and Amsterdam, NY.

At Life is Precious™, we believe that the best gift we can give to someone is our belief in their success. Every day, we are committed to deliver experiences to uplift and bring joy to reclaim our sense of self-worth and limitless potential.

Here are some highlights of us having fun together with music, homework, art, dance, poetry, and offsite field trips.

What Life is Precious™ Achieves

LIP offers activities that allow the teens to thrive by finding their unique voice and strive by providing the tools to help them envision and achieve goals.

Through LIP the girls have learned to advocate for themselves and their peers through civic engagement.

Each afternoon, the teens take part in group activities including academic support, expressive arts therapies, health & wellness and family services.

LIP’s Results

To date, more than 750 Latina teens have participated in LIP not one of whom has completed suicide. LIP’s accomplishments are measured by the positive results achieved by the girls.

An evaluation by the NYS Psychiatric Institute/Columbia University – NYS Center of Excellence for Cultural Competence shows that for every month a Latina teen participates in LIP her level of suicide ideation and depression decreases.
